"All About Bioenergy" Is the First Topic in the New Wood Innovations Seminar Series!

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 11, 2011) - The Eastern Ontario Model Forest has entered into a new and exciting partnership with FPInnovations-Wood Products Division aimed at nurturing the sustainability and growth of the Eastern Ontario wood products industry through technical guidance and education. As part of this project, we will be co-hosting a Wood Innovations Seminar Series: Products, Processes & Possibilities featuring three distinct topics in six different locations including: All About Bioenergy, Lean Manufacturing, and Marketing & Sales for Value-Added Wood

First up is the Bioenergy seminar on February 15th in Bancroft, and again on February 16th in Pembroke. This seminar will focus on the potential of Eastern Ontario to support bioenergy initiatives. The following topics will be of particular interest to communities as well as potential suppliers and manufacturers:

  • Products and Processes: bio-energy options; best practices for development; policies to encourage development

  • Resources: types, availability; processing; transportation; supply chain; equipment

  • Wood Pellets: what they are; grades of pellets and their uses; manufacturing process and costs; location and sizes of markets

  • Case Studies: community heating & power; small scale bio-based electrical power generation

  • Valuation of Biomass Harvesting in Eastern Ontario

For more information on these seminars and on the project itself, and to register, please visit our new webpage at: www.seminars.eomf.on.ca.

This project is being supported through generous grant from the Government of Canada's Community Adjustment Fund.

Background:  Perhaps the biggest challenge for Ontario's forestry sector is finding new markets for "fibre quality" wood. Wood for energy could be a partial solution for Ontario's forest sector decline. Developing wood fibre energy markets where the benefits foster forest sector jobs and less of a dependence on fossil fuels represents a very real opportunity for all stakeholders.
