Allegheny Software Integrates PEPID Drug Interactions

Drug interaction checker will increase patient safety for home healthcare professionals

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - March 31, 2015) - Allegheny Software Publishers, Inc today announced that it will incorporate content from PEPID®, the leading provider of medical and drug decision support content, into its home healthcare software solution, HHC 3000, in order to improve the accuracy and safety of patient care. This partnership will provide automatic drug interaction checks to help home healthcare professionals make accurate decisions and prevent drug-related errors.

"This real-time feature to our HHC 3000 product is a crucial enhancement for all current and future clients, allowing home care agencies to meet the requirements for drug regimen review as it pertains to the conditions of participation," says Jim Dunmire, VP of Allegheny Software Publishers.

This partnership will allow home health clinicians using the HHC 3000 solution to perform medication reconciliation and check for potential interactions across a patient's entire medication regime -- including prescription, over-the-counter, herbals, supplements and foods, as well as duplicate therapy, as part of their normal workflow. The results from the interactions check are immediately available, and automatically incorporated in the electronic healthcare record (EHR).

This new functionality provides home health agencies with more efficient work flow process and ensures patient safety during care transitions, providing effective case managements and decreasing the risk of medication-related re-hospitalization rates.

"We're proud to add Allegheny Software to the list of electronic medical records (EMR) companies that rely on PEPID for clinical and drug-related decision support," says John Wagner, PEPID president. "I'm pleased that we can offer easy integration of our leading drug interaction checker, so that these home health agencies can work more efficiently, and provide better patient care."

Allegheny Software has integrated the PEPID drug interactions functionality via the PEPID application programming interface (API), which is currently employed within hundreds of healthcare systems worldwide.

Those attending the HIMSS Annual Conference April 12-15, 2015, in Chicago are encouraged to stop by PEPID booth #3144 to see a demonstration of the PEPID drug-to-drug interaction and duplicate therapy checker.

PEPID utilizes cutting-edge technology to deliver clinical decision-support resources specific for healthcare professionals, primarily pharmacists, doctors, nurses, EMTs and students. PEPID content is reviewed and contributed to by partners including the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, the National Association of Emergency Medical Services Educators, the Family Physician Inquiries Network, the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, the Oncology Nursing Society, and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists to ensure content is of the highest quality.
