Allergy Alert/CFIA-Undeclared Egg in Certain Sandwich Factory Brand Sub Sandwiches

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 1, 2007) - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with allergies to egg proteins not to consume certain Sandwich Factory brand Sub Sandwiches described below. The affected products contain egg proteins which is not declared on the label.

All " Best Before" codes of the following Sandwich Factory brand Sub Sandwiches, prepared for Go Snacks Distribution, are affected by this alert:

1. Steak Works Sub, sold in a 160 g package bearing UPC 6 21809 00012 3

2. Super Steak Sub, sold in a 150 g package bearing UPC 6 21809 00013 0

The affected products have been distributed in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to egg proteins.

The manufacturer, Atlantic Prepared Foods Limited, Alberton, Prince Edward Island, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
