Allied Electronics Helps Save 114 Lives With Blood Drive

FORT WORTH, TX--(Marketwire - Jun 22, 2011) - Allied Electronics held a blood drive on June 10, 2011 at its corporate office in Fort Worth, Texas. Carter BloodCare was onsite helping donors from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in a mobile donation center. The drive was held in an effort to provide employees a way to unite and benefit their local community.

"It is important to Allied that we give back to those who support our business," says Susan Overcash, director of human resources for Allied. "It gives us an opportunity to not only help others, but it gives us a better understanding of what can be accomplished when we unite as a community. We look forward to continuing to provide assistance to our community, not only through blood drives but by volunteering with local organizations."

For their participation, employees were offered coupons from local restaurants, a T-shirt and car sunshades, and their names were put into a drawing to win a "Night at the Movies" Gift Basket, which included movie tickets, popcorn, candy and soda. In addition, employees can check their cholesterol levels and find out their blood types online after they make a donation.

Gift basket winner and senior credit representative for Allied, Aftan Lorick, says she was motivated to donate because her family members have needed blood transfusions in the past.

"I was so grateful for those donors who gave so that my family members could survive," says Lorick. "I wanted to return the favor and give back to other people who might be in need of blood. The blood drive here at Allied made it very convenient."

A total of 49 employees participated in the blood drive, with 38 whole blood units given. The donated blood will help save 114 lives according to Carter BloodCare.
