Allied Electronics Supports Regional Future City Competition

FORT WORTH, TX--(Marketwire - February 8, 2011) - Fort Worth-based Allied Electronics and the Fort Worth Section of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) teamed up to financially support and participate in the North Texas Regional Future City Competition. The 19th annual competition took place Saturday, Jan. 22 at the University of Texas at Arlington.

The Future City Competition, sponsored in part by National Engineers Week (, is a middle-school education outreach program designed to foster an interest in technology and engineering. The competition requires each team to: design a city 150 years in the future using SimCity software; research an engineering problem; write an essay on their solution; build a tabletop scale model using recycled materials; and present their model and ideas to a panel of judges. Participants work in teams with a teacher and an engineering mentor who contribute real-world knowledge.

In addition to financial contributions, Allied President Lee Davidson, Vice President of Sales Mark Simon and Director of Technical Product Support Russ Bullmer participated as judges for the event.

"Future City is a very well organized program that allows students to learn, design and imagine the future of our world," says Lee Davidson. "Being a judge allowed me to see what our cities of the future could look like through the eyes of 6th, 7th and 8th graders."

North Texas was one of 35 regions around the country holding competitions. Regional winners will receive a trip to the National Finals, to be held in Washington D.C., in February. For more information about the Future City Competition, visit
