FORT WORTH, TX--(Marketwire - Aug 2, 2012) - A team of employees from Allied Electronics, a trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), participated in a "Day of Caring" for the second consecutive year by volunteering at the Fort Worth Boys and Girls Club on Friday, July 27. Coordinated through the United Way of Tarrant County, the Day of Caring is designed for companies and organizations to give back to their communities by volunteering individuals' time and skills.
The Fort Worth Boys and Girls Club provides hot meals and a fun, safe place for kids to go after school and during the summer. The non-profit organization also provides tutoring, mentoring, athletics, counseling and many other services.
"I really enjoyed the trip to the Boys and Girls Club," says Allied Accounts Payable Clerk and volunteer Isabel Jones. "I believe visits from companies like ours show the kids that people do care."
Thirteen Allied volunteers worked with some 150 youth of all ages, interacting, playing games, and providing a pizza party. Employees spent three hours with the kids and were compensated for the time away from their jobs.
"Allied is committed to people -- both in our business and in our communities," says Allied President Lee Davidson. "We believe hands-on participation in events such as the Day of Caring is just as important as monetary donations."
Allied has a history of donating generously to United Way, with donations for 2012 exceeding $32,000.
