AlliedBarton Security Services, HR Plus, ASIS Northern New Jersey and Berkeley College Present a Free Workplace Violence Prevention Seminar

NEWARK, NJ--(Marketwire - Jun 13, 2012) - AlliedBarton Security Services, the industry's premier provider of highly trained security personnel, and HR Plus, a leading provider of comprehensive solutions for employment and background screening, in partnership with Berkeley College will host a free workplace violence prevention seminar. The seminar will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Berkeley College, 536 Broad Street, Newark, NJ. A continental breakfast and boxed lunch will be served.

"It is important that the topic of workplace violence prevention stay top of mind with our business and organization leaders and all employees in Newark and throughout the world," said Deputy Mayor Margarita Muniz. "Awareness begins at the workplace with education and training, but it is seminars like this that help drive the message home. It is vital that this matter is taken seriously at all levels and this seminar can help to start conversations within the workplace and spread the message of workplace violence prevention."

"When speaking of workplace violence, most individuals automatically think of active shooter scenarios and the harm this particular situation can endow on a town, business and individuals," said Ron Hurley, Director of Public Safety, Berkeley College. "The term active shooter is relatively new as it entered the national lexicon in the wake of the fatal shootings at Columbine High School. We are most familiar with active shooter incidents over other forms of workplace violence and situations that are always top of mind include the shootings at Virginia Tech, Fort Hood, and the active shooter situation in Tucson, Arizona. It is important for organizations to devote training and education on each level of workplace violence, and to work together with local law enforcement, other businesses and employees to create a workplace free of violence."

"The prevention of workplace violence is a shared responsibility between local emergency response organizations, business leaders and individuals within the community," said Lt. Richard Casale, Newark Police Department. "Everyone must work together to create awareness and ensure proper education and training are in place. We are proud to support workplace violence prevention and awareness and are eager to deliver an educational and informational seminar."

"Managers and co-workers are uniquely positioned to notice the telltale signs of someone who is moving toward violence on the job," said Steven M. Crimando, MA, BCETS, CHS-V, Managing Director, Extreme Behavioral Risk Management. "Nobody simply snaps. There are well established causes, warning signs and ways to intervene to prevent a tragedy in the workplace. With awareness and diligence, everyone in the workplace can help detect and deter another who may be considering or planning to commit an act of workplace violence."

"There are more than one million incidents of workplace violence a year according to OSHA," said AlliedBarton's Steve Sacchetti, Vice President of Business Development. "It is imperative that employees and leaders in the workplace violence are trained on workplace violence prevention and awareness since it is not a matter of if it can happen at your organization, but ultimately, when. We want to help prepare everyone for when that situation occurs."

Seminar attendees will receive a complimentary eBook copy of "Potential: Workplace Violence Prevention and Your Organizational Success" by Bill Whitmore, AlliedBarton's President and CEO.

Potential, www.potentialthebook.com, shows how a range of stakeholders -- from CEOs and other senior leaders to building management, human resources, contract security and law enforcement -- can work together to lower an organization's workplace violence risk and enhance its overall morale and performance.

Crimando, MA, BCETS, CHS-V, Managing Director, Extreme Behavioral Risk Management; Ron Hurley, Director of Public Safety, Berkeley College; Lieutenant Richard Casale, Newark Police Department; and Steve Sacchetti, Vice President of Business Development, AlliedBarton.
