AlliedBarton Security Services and HR Plus Present a Free Workplace Violence Prevention Seminar

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 13, 2012) - AlliedBarton Security Services, the industry's premier provider of highly trained security personnel, and HR Plus, a leading provider of comprehensive solutions for employment and background screening, will host a free workplace violence prevention seminar. The seminar will be held on Thursday, September 27, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. at the Automobile Club of Southern California, 2601 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles, CA. Breakfast will be provided.

"The goals of this seminar are to expose, educate and provoke attendees on their approach toward workplace violence prevention and the mitigation, containment and management of targeted violence incidences," said Dr. Manny Tau, Psy.D. "Topics will include predatory behaviors, toxic personality styles, perpetrator types, threat potential levels and a rapid scan threat assessment approach. Passive target versus active shooter survival strategies will also be addressed."

"The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has been at the forefront of training law enforcement officers in responding to active shooter type incidents," explained Kamal Ahmad, Sergeant, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "Unfortunately, many of those incidents occur at the workplace or other locations where a response from law enforcement is delayed by precious seconds or minutes while the call is made and dispatched to patrol units. Members of the Department's Special Weapons Team will discuss options that citizens can use to keep themselves safe during these types of situations. We will also provide information on what to expect from law enforcement when they arrive on scene and how the public can provide critical assistance to first responders. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Special Weapons Team is able to deploy a tactical team to an incident within minutes through the use of aerial support and other deployment strategies."

"Workplace violence prevention begins with the leaders of an organization," said Bill Whitmore, CEO and President, AlliedBarton Security Services. "Without leadership, other employees won't be able to engage in this evergreen topic. Prevention is key to decreasing workplace violence incidents and it is important that all individuals are aware of the warning signs, how to prevent a situation, their role during a situation and your workplace violence prevention plan."

Seminar discussion topics will include workplace violence prevention and your organizational success; workplace violence and threat assessments; and how to respond during an active shooter situation. An expert panel will also hold a question and answer session.

Seminar attendees will receive a complimentary copy of "Potential: Workplace Violence Prevention and Your Organizational Success" by Bill Whitmore, AlliedBarton's President and CEO.

Potential, www.potentialthebook.com, shows how a range of stakeholders -- from CEOs and other senior leaders to building management, human resources, contract security and law enforcement -- can work together to lower an organization's workplace violence risk and enhance its overall morale and performance.

Speakers and panel members include: Manny Tau, Psy.D.; Kamal Ahmad, Sergeant, Los Angeles Sherriff's Department; and Bill Whitmore, CEO and President, AlliedBarton Security Services.

Media interested in attending this event are encouraged to RSVP to the press contact in this release.
