NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Sep 18, 2012) - Allvoices, one of the world's largest social news sites, announced today that it will extend the end date for the American Pundit Contest to November 15 to ensure writers are given the opportunity to share their opinions on the outcome of the election. The American Pundit competition has given a voice to everyday Americans during this election year, and it provides an alternative to mainstream media as a source for breaking news and opinions surrounding political events.
"The American Pundit competition has already given thousands of people the chance to participate in a nationwide debate on the elections, and we are extending the contest to ensure they have a chance to do that at the most critical time -- when the election actually happens and the results are in," said Dean Schaffer, community manager and editor-in-chief for Allvoices.
Allvoices is offering a $5,000 grand prize, a $1,000 runner-up prize, and a recently added $250 honorable mention prize, all to be awarded in December. Since the start of the competition, Allvoices has received more than 10,000 submissions and has already awarded $8,000 in cash prizes to 32 contest participants. By the time the contest ends, Allvoices will have awarded more than $16,000 in cash prizes to American Pundit writers.
With more than 500,000 content contributors, Allvoices' base of citizen journalists leads the world in reach and diversity. As the election nears, Allvoices has also added a political-themed crossword to further capture and amplify the excitement around the election.
Allvoices' American Pundit campaign is still seeking students, full- or part-time bloggers and all political enthusiasts to share their voices and opinions in order to participate in the competition or simply to gain recognition for their ideas on an unprecedented national scale.
