Almighty NODE Inspires Deep Connections at TEDx

NODE User Experience Drives Attendee Engagement at TEDxCambridge Event; Watson-Powered Ecosystem and Ambient Mapping Visualize the Rich Connections Between Attendees

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Jun 15, 2015) - Almighty (, a digital creative agency that specializes in building user-connected experiences for brands, is debuting the latest version of its experiential digital installation, NODE, at the TEDxCambridge event held on June 18th at the John Hancock Theater, in Boston, MA.

"For the TEDxCambridge installation, NODE visually illustrates, on the interior of the performance hall and screens throughout the event space, how everyone at an event is related to one another," explains Ian Fitzpatrick, chief strategy officer at Almighty. "As an attendee, I may not know a lot of other people at the event, but by interacting with NODE, I can immediately find somebody with similar interests and have a conversation." Powered by the IBM Watson semantic search technology, NODE curates TEDxCambridge attendee information from social media channels -- such as their backgrounds or an online article two attendees may have both liked -- utilizing digital projection mapping to visually display attendee commonalities.

"We were seeking a world-class experiential design partner in the team at Almighty," said Dmitri Gunn, executive director of TEDxCambridge, on the inception of the NODE Experience. "We host two events a year for 1,100 guests, which only last a few hours. TEDxCambridge is a remarkable concentration of passionate, creative and accomplished people. There is an extraordinary amount of intellectual and organizational talent participating in the event. We wanted to create a digital engagement platform to help facilitate conversations between guests beyond those that occurred through meeting just by chance."

The NODE Experience offers two main features: ambient, which is displayed on large format screens throughout the event space that digitally maps attendee names and connections at random, and a kiosk display with iPad, which attendees can interact with on the event floor. Attendees can either use a mobile device to text their name to the ambient display, triggering their name to be shown, or select their name from the iPad, prompting the smaller kiosk display to pull up their name and connections, which are then emailed directly to the attendee.

Gunn elaborates on the success of NODE at TEDxCambridge saying, "We're looking forward to the 2015 Spring event with a more immersive NODE experience featuring an exciting new integration with IBM's Watson. Guests will be blown away with the insights and deep contextual and thematic compatibility highlighted by NODE. We are also going beyond the auditorium screen utilizing digital mapping to project the experience onto the interior surfaces of the performance hall. It's going to be far more engaging and impressive."

"NODE provides an enormous opportunity to connect people anywhere, whether at an event or even within a large organization," states Fitzpatrick. "And it's not just limited to the social sphere; it's completely data-driven, meaning we can pull whatever data we want to draw these connections. In a more specific setting, for example biotech, we can connect two or more strangers who have a shared interest in a very specific topic and have several contacts in common. In a workspace, we can display connections between employees who otherwise would have no reason to know one another. It's just a matter of having access to that data. Once it's there, it can be used in almost any way imaginable with NODE."

Employing simple, rock solid technology custom-built by Almighty, NODE can be applied at just about any event to connect attendees, acting as a pop-up networking tool that enables anyone to easily find people with a shared background. In a sales space, this tool could be used to visibly match sales reps with prospects in real time, as people can see the otherwise hidden connections between them and their fellow attendees. Even more importantly, because NODE is all about the individual, it makes for a much more engaging user experience where attendees can see how they fit in with the event.
