AltaGas Ltd. Officially Opens Forrest Kerr, Volcano Creek and McLymont Creek Hydroelectic Facilities in Northwest B.C.


CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - June 2, 2015) -

AltaGas Ltd. ("AltaGas") (TSX:ALA) today held the official naming and grand opening ceremony for its Forrest Kerr, Volcano Creek and McLymont Creek run-of-river hydroelectric facilities at the site of the facilities in northwest British Columbia.

Located in Tahltan First Nation territory, the 195-megawatt Forrest Kerr Hydroelectric Facility achieved commercial operation date (COD) in October 2014. The 16-megawatt Volcano Creek Hydroelectric Facility achieved COD in December 2014. Both facilities were completed on time and on budget and are delivering clean power to BC Hydro's power grid through their 287-kV Northwest Transmission Line. The 66-megawatt McLymont Creek Hydroelectric Facility is nearing completion and will be brought online later this year. The Tahltan First Nation has played a key role in the success of the projects and will work closely with AltaGas to provide clean energy to British Columbia for decades to come.

Members from the Tahltan First Nation, Chad Day, President Tahltan Central Council and government officials Bill Bennett, Minister of Energy and Mines, John Rustad, Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation, Les MacLaren, Assistant Deputy Minister, Electricity and Alternative Energy Division, Ministry of Energy and Mines joined David Cornhill, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, members of AltaGas' Board of Directors and AltaGas staff to officially open the facilities.
