ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - May 16, 2011) - Altova® (, creator of XMLSpy®, the industry leading XML editor, offers a host of features for users working with Microsoft® technologies in the Altova MissionKit®, the integrated suite of XML, database, and UML tools for XML developers and software architects. The latest release of the MissionKit -- Version 2011 Release 2 -- builds upon existing support for Microsoft Word and Office 2010 with new functionality for comparing and merging Microsoft Word documents in Altova DiffDog®. Some other MissionKit features helpful for developers, designers, and DBAs working with Microsoft technologies include powerful functionality for SQL Server® database development and reporting, integration with SharePoint® Server, seamless integration with Visual Studio®, and much more.

Please note: All the products described below are available for purchase individually or as part of the specially-priced Altova MissionKit tool suite.

"With each new release we aim to provide our customers with support for the latest Microsoft technologies, in the context of everything from end-user content management and reporting, to application and database development. By supporting these popular tools and technologies we are giving developers, designers, and DBAs, unique, advanced functionality to help enhance their development efforts," said Alexander Falk, President & CEO for Altova.

  • SQL Server Support - The Altova MissionKit includes extensive support for SQL Server 2000, 2005, and 2008, as well as all other major relational database types. DatabaseSpy®, Altova's multi-database tool, provides powerful support for SQL editing, database structure design, content editing, structure and content comparison, and database conversion.

XMLSpy allows users to easily connect to a database, generate an XML Schema based on the database, import and export data based on database structures, and easily generate database structures from XML Schemas. XMLSpy's ability to convert and move seamlessly between databases and XML files helps to reduce interoperability issues.

MapForce also provides support for mapping between SQL Server (and other databases) and XML, flat files, EDI, Excel, XBRL, and Web services, giving users an easy way to transform data between databases and other prevalent business data formats.

Additionally, StyleVision generates eye-catching, multi-channel database reports in HTML, RTF, PDF, Word, and Authentic electronic forms that include powerful visualization features such as advanced data processing and formatting rules, charts, barcodes, and more.

UModel®, Altova's advanced UML tool, includes functionality for relational database modeling that helps users create and modify robust databases using Unified Modeling Language and automatic SQL script generation.

  • Office 2010 Support - Multiple MissionKit tools support OOXML, the default file format for Microsoft Office documents. In the recent release of Version 2011 Release 2, DiffDog added a powerful new feature for comparing Microsoft Word documents. The integration of Microsoft Word into the DiffDog user interface delivers greater flexibility as users can utilize familiar Word functions while comparing and editing documents within the diff/merge tool.

Additionally, Altova XMLSpy can be used to access, edit, transform, and query XML data saved in Office formats and zipped files. MapForce®, Altova's graphical data mapping tool, supports mapping, transforming, and instantly converting between any combination of Excel data and XML, databases, flat files, EDI, XBRL, and Web services. Also StyleVision®, the visual stylesheet and report design tool, can be used to transform XML, XBRL, and database content into HTML, RTF, PDF, Word, and Authentic eForm formats.

  • SharePoint Server Support - The XMLSpy XML editor provides strong integration with SharePoint Server, including full file read/write capabilities using WebDAV, as well as check-in/check-out checkout versioning functionality to facilitate easy editing and debugging of XML, XSLT, XML Schema, and other XML-based files stored on SharePoint.

  • Visual StudioIntegration - Altova XMLSpy, MapForce, StyleVision, and UModel offer complete and seamless integration with the Visual Studio development platform. When users run any of these products inside Visual Studio, the Altova tool uses the native project management of Visual Studio, and at the same time users get all the specialized tools and advanced functionality that XMLSpy, MapForce, StyleVision, and UModel are known for -- directly inside the Visual Studio IDE.

  • Royalty-free Code Generation - The MissionKit also provides support for generating royalty free program code in C# and other languages. XMLSpy will autogenerate application code in C# based on a data model defined in an XML Schema, helping free developers from having to write low level infrastructure code. Additionally, to help automate the process of data integration, MapForce generates data transformation code in C# that can be used in the user's custom applications. UModel can also automatically generate C# and VB.NET source code based on a UML class or component diagram. Users can make revisions to the model and generate updated code without rewriting manually.
