Altova DiffDog Enhances Its File Differencing Capabilities Adding Diff/Merge Support for Microsoft® Word Files

Functionality Complements Existing Support for File, Directory, OOXML, and Database Comparisons in the Diff/Merge Tool

BEVERLY, MA--(Marketwire - Apr 11, 2011) - Altova® (http://www.altova.com ) creator of XMLSpy®, the industry leading XML editor, recently announced new support for comparing Microsoft® Word documents using Altova DiffDog®. The new comparison feature was introduced as part of Altova's launch of Version 2011 Release 2 of its MissionKit® tool suite and entire product line. The integration of Microsoft Word into DiffDog's user interface delivers greater flexibility as users can utilize familiar Word functions while comparing and editing documents within the diff/merge tool.

"Adding even more flexibility to our unique diff/merge utility, the latest release of DiffDog expands upon our differencing support for text and XML files, databases, directories, OOXML files, and ZIP archives to give Microsoft Word users the functionality they need to manage document changes and versions over time. This new feature is very easy to use and will be particularly helpful where change tracking was not used," said Alexander Falk, President and CEO for Altova.

DiffDog 2011 now has the ability to compare Word documents in two embedded windows that automatically display the differences side-by-side using easy to understand graphical indicators. This side-by-side differencing view is typically preferred by engineers and technical audiences over the built-in compare function in Word that produces a merged legal redline document. With this new DiffDog feature users can edit files in either display pane, merge differences individually in either direction, and save their revised documents into new files. This new feature can be applied to any file type that can be opened by Microsoft Word 2003 or later, including: .doc files created in earlier versions of Word, .rtf files, .txt files, and others. Users can also customize their display options, choosing to compare text only or both text and formatting styles. A special tool bar provides access to Word display options, while DiffDog tool icons perform Word operations for Copy, Cut, Paste, Undo, and Redo. Other Microsoft Word functionality is available including Search and Replace and keyboard shortcuts.

In addition to Word document comparison, Altova DiffDog can also quickly compare and merge text or source code files, synchronize directories, compare database schemas and contents of database tables, and perform advanced XML aware differencing and editing.
