AMA Houston's Crystal Awards Recognizes Houston's Best Marketing Work

64 Winners Announced at May 23rd Gala

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwired - May 29, 2013) - The Houston Chapter of the American Marketing Association announced 64 winners at its 27th Annual Crystal Awards on May 23, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Houston. The Crystal Awards, AMA Houston's premier event, honored the vision and strategic direction of the city's best marketing work. The judges evaluated hundreds of entries in 63 categories, with a record 113 organizations represented among the finalists this year. The 254 finalist entries were on display at the event for the capacity crowd that exceeded 540 attendees.

The event featured special guest presenters Mayor Annise Parker and Nancy Costopulos, CMO American Marketing Association, and was emceed by Emmy Award-winning journalist Linda Lorelle. Met Too, a Houston-based student dance company, provided an outstanding performance for the evening.

Among the top winning organizations this year were Blue Sky Marketing, Houston Zoo, and Texas Children's Pavilion for Women. The coveted Judges' Favorite award went to Vision Production Group for the Galveston "It's Island Time" television advertising campaign. "I would also like to thank all of the support from our Crystal Awards sponsors and partners, without whom we could not have honored our city's incredible talent," said Tooms. This year's event co-chairs were Jared Houser, Ngoc Ma with Waste Management, and Jenn Soto with Starrt Marketing. More than 25 volunteers helped bring the Crystal Awards to life.

A portion of the proceeds from the Crystal Awards went to AMA Houston Gives Back, the chapter's philanthropic arm that provides annual grants to non-profits to assist them with their marketing-related activities. During the event, the chapter announced the 2013 grant recipients, selected from 39 applications. The grant recipients were Bo's Place, Friends for Life, Halo House Foundation, Plant it Forward Farms and Young Harmonies of Houston.
