As Part of the Keynote Program for the 2015 Medical Informatics World Conference, May 4-5 in Boston, Dr. Stack Will Present on the Topic of Health IT, Health Reform, and the Path Forward

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Jan 13, 2015) - Cambridge Healthtech Institute is pleased to announce the newest addition to the speaking faculty for the third annual Medical Informatics World Conference, taking place May 4-5, 2015 in Boston. American Medical Association (AMA) President-Elect, Steven J. Stack, M.D., will provide an overview of the latest opportunities to improve patient care and safety in the midst of the industry's greatest changes, such as new EHR and telemedicine technologies and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. The session will explore how recent legislative and regulatory requirements are impacting physicians and how technology can be leveraged to overcome existing challenges, increase efficiencies, and ultimately improve patient care.

"I think some of the biggest innovations of the 21st century will be at the intersection of biology and technology," said Dr. Stack. "The rapid pace of innovation in digital health is creating new opportunities for patients and physicians to be more actively engaged in their health and wellness, but only if we can reasonably connect the flood of data to a patients' journey through the health care system."

An emergency department physician, Dr. Stack will assume the position of AMA president in June 2015. Elected to the AMA Board of Trustees in 2006, he was the first board-certified emergency physician to serve as an AMA board member. His AMA leadership positions include board chair and secretary. Before that, he was an elected leader with numerous state, national and specialty medical associations. Dr. Stack is recognized for his expertise in health information technology and was chair of the AMA's Health Information Technology Advisory Group from 2007 to 2013. And he has served on multiple federal advisory groups for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.

Dr. Stack joins the keynote faculty of nationally recognized health information technology experts, including Phil Polakoff, M.D., National Health Advisor and US Surgeon General Nominee; John Halamka, M.D., MS, CIO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; Jason Burke, Senior Advisor for Innovation and Advanced Analytics of UNC Health Care and School of Medicine; and Jonathan Weiner, Dr.P.H., Professor of Health Policy & Management and Health Informatics and Director of Center for Population Health Information Technology (CPHIT) of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. A senior representative from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology will also present an update on health delivery reform.
