AMAPCEO Named Canadian "Top 100" Employer Four Years in a Row

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 8, 2009) - AMAPCEO (the Association of Management, Administrative and Professional Crown Employees of Ontario) has been named for the fourth year in a row to the annual list of the Top 100 Employers in Canada, it was announced today in Maclean's Magazine. The Globe and Mail will publish a special supplement profiling the winners tomorrow.

AMAPCEO, the only union to be included as a Top 100 Employer, represents 11,000 professional and supervisory public servants, most of whom work for the Government of Ontario, in all parts of the province and in ten cities outside Canada.

AMAPCEO President and CEO Gary Gannage congratulated AMAPCEO members and the staff who work to protect their interests: "Our staff serve our members extremely well and our members understand that the way we treat our own employees sends a very clear message to our employers –who include the provincial government and the Legislature- about how public servants should be treated."

"Winning this national award again," said Gannage, "is another confirmation that the AMAPCEO community (employees, their families, their bargaining agents and the leadership of the organization) are continuing to work in an effective partnership."

More About AMAPCEO and Our Members

AMAPCEO represents approximately 11,000 professional and supervisory public servants, most of whom work directly for the Government of Ontario in every ministry and in a number of agencies, boards and commissions. We also represent employees in: the Office of the Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth (an independent office of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario); the Mental Health Centre Penetanguishene; and the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion.

Established in 1992, AMAPCEO has built, in a relatively short period of time, a strong record of negotiating innovative collective agreements, of adopting a collegial, problem-solving approach to dispute resolution and of advocating for an apolitical professional public service as a critical component in Canada's system of parliamentary democracy.

AMAPCEO members include policy and financial analysts, auditors, economists, program supervisors, mediators, arbitrators, laboratory scientists, veterinarians, child and youth advocates and clinical co-ordinators. AMAPCEO-represented employees work in over 130 communities throughout the Province of Ontario, including:

  • Greater Toronto Area – approximately 8,000 members
  • Kingston – 320 members
  • Ottawa – 120 members
  • Peterborough – 230 members
  • London and Windsor – 125 members
  • Guelph – 270 members
  • North Bay – 200 members
  • Sudbury – 130 members
  • Thunder Bay – 115 members.
