Amazon Mining Holding Plc (TSX VENTURE:AMZ) ("Amazon" or the "Company") regrettably announces that Directors Mr. Richard Topham, Mr. Simon Lawrence, and Mr. Kevin van Niekerk, have chosen not to stand for re-election at the Company's upcoming Annual General Meeting scheduled for June 24, 2009. The Board has identified and nominated three replacements, Dr. Henrique Brandao Cavalcanti, Mr. Renato Gomes and Mr. Michael Atkinson who have all accepted nomination. Amazon would like to express its gratitude to the outgoing directors for their tremendous contributions to the Company since their appointment in June 2007.

Dr. Henrique Brandao Cavalcanti has represented Brazil as President of the World Health Organization's Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety since 2000 and was Chair of the Commission on Sustainable Development. He has represented Brazil at the UN Conference on the Human Environment (1972) and the World Population Conference (1974). His government experience includes posts as Minister of the Environment, Deputy Minister of Mines & Energy and Deputy Minister of the Interior. Roles in industry have included: Managing Director of electric power utilities in Southern Brazil (1965-67), assistant to the President of ELETROBRAS (1975), Chairman and CEO of the Brazilian Steel Corporation-SIDERBRAS (1978-1985), Managing Director of the International Environmental Bureau in Geneva (1986-89), and Director for Environment of the CAEMI Group (199093). Dr. Cavalcanti graduated in civil engineering from McGill University, Canada.

Mr. Renato Gomes is director of the ABCI Institute (Brazilian International Trade Scholars) and researcher at Georgetown University, where his work focuses on the Brazilian government, its development agenda, and foreign investment. Previous professional experience include consultancies on government-business relations in Brazil, legal practice with a leading Brazilian law firm, and serving as legal officer to Nobel Peace laureate Martti Ahtisaari at the United Nations Office of the Special Envoy in Vienna. Mr. Gomes holds an LL.B. from Faculdade de Direito da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, an LL.M. from the London School of Economics and Political Science (Graduate Merit Award and AlBan scholar), an LL.M. from Georgetown University (Instituto Ling scholar), and is currently concluding his doctoral thesis at Georgetown University (CAPES-Fulbright scholar).

Mr. Michael Atkinson has over 15 years of investment and venture capital industry experience. He is presently President of Maverick Projects Inc., a private consulting company focusing on merchant banking opportunities which includes structured finance products, equity and debt capital raising, and mergers and acquisitions within the junior resource sector. Additionally, he is currently a Director of Canadian Phoenix Resources Corp. and IMA Explorations Inc., both listed on the Toronto Venture Exchange. In 2002, Mr. Atkinson assisted in forming Quest Capital Corp. as Vice President through 2008, he was responsible and part of bridge lending and real estate financing activities of over $1 billion. Mr. Atkinson holds a BA from the University of Western Ontario.
