Ambassador for Religious Freedom, Dr. Andrew P.W. Bennett, Joins Think Tank Cardus

HAMILTON, ON--(Marketwired - March 17, 2016) - Cardus is pleased to announce that Ambassador Dr. Andrew P.W. Bennett, who is completing his appointment as Canada's Ambassador for Religious Freedom, has accepted a position as Senior Fellow at Cardus, and Chair of the Cabinet of Canadians for Cardus's Faith in Canada 150 program.

This appointment, effective immediately, will see Dr. Bennett gather and chair a group of esteemed Canadians as we engage in conversations about faith in the context of our celebrations of Canada's 150th anniversary. Over the next 18 months, as our sesquicentennial celebrations unfold, Dr. Bennett will lead Canadians of different religious communities in both celebrating and encouraging the importance of faith in our common life.

As a Senior Fellow at Cardus, Dr. Bennett will have a platform to continue promoting religious freedom, as we broaden our commentary on issues faced in Canada and around the world. This is consistent with Dr. Bennett's continuing work and passion for religious freedom.

Quotes

I look forward very much to working with Cardus, the think tank best placed in my view to reaffirm the essential and foundational role of faith in our common life as Canadians. The Faith in Canada 150 initiative provides an excellent opportunity to do so. I will continue to champion the cause of religious freedom in this and other endeavours -- a cause that is very much at the centre of my vocation.

-- Ambassador Andrew P.W. Bennett

There is no one better than Ambassador Bennett to pick up the baton as we approach our sesquicentennial -- not just to celebrate our country's birthday, but as we shape who we want to be as a country. Ambassador Bennett's deep understanding of how we can live together in difference is essential for this national celebration.

-- Michael Van Pelt, President -- Cardus

About Faith in Canada 150

Faith has given shape to this country, and Canada now stands apart in a world deeply scarred by conflict, prejudice, and brutality. Faith communities of all kinds-including Christians, Jews, Sikhs, Muslims, Baha'i, and other groups-made many positive contributions to the development of this country and can continue to do so into the future. This is the story that Faith in Canada 150 will tell. Faith in Canada 150 is a joyful force for celebrating faith in our past, present and future.
