AMCP Creates New Health Care Practitioners Membership Category

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 11, 2005 -- The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) has established a new membership category, Health Care Practitioners (Non-Pharmacist), for physicians and registered nurses. AMCP will reach out to physicians and RNs who practice in the managed care environment to invite them to join the Academy. Membership for this new category opened on April 22, 2005.

The addition of the Health Care Practitioners (Non-Pharmacist) category illustrates AMCP's on-going commitment to its vision of "improved quality of life through appropriate and accessible medication therapy." AMCP is a national professional association of about 4,800 pharmacists and associates whose purpose is to represent the views and interests of managed care pharmacy. It is AMCP's mission to "empower its members to serve society by using sound medication management principles and strategies to achieve positive patient outcomes."

AMCP believes that this new category is essential in continuing its mission. "It's clear that our members are dedicated to inclusiveness in their desire to make sure that more, rather than fewer, individuals understand and embrace the principles of managed care pharmacy," said Judith Cahill, executive director of the Academy. "Pharmacists recognize that they cannot operate in a silo. They must collaborate with health care practitioners to serve patients. We look forward to welcoming these new members to our organization, and learning from them as much as they learn from us."

Dues for this membership are the same as the Pharmacist level, and with payment of these dues, Health Care Practitioners (Non-Pharmacist) will receive member publications, the opportunity to serve on AMCP committees, meeting registration and subscription discounts and the peer-reviewed Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy (JMCP). Health Care Practitioners (Non-Pharmacist) will also be able to track their Continuing Medical Education credits through the AMCP.org Online Learning Center.

The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy's mission is to empower its members to serve society by using sound medication management principles and strategies to achieve positive patient outcomes. AMCP has more than 4,800 members nationally who provide comprehensive coverage and services to the more than 200 million Americans served by managed care.
