AME BC: Media Advisory; Industry/First Nation Representatives to Provide Perspectives on $2B Galore Creek Mining Project

The Largest Private Sector Project in BC's History

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2007) - Association for Mineral Exploration British Columbia (AME BC) -

Representatives from NovaGold Resources Inc., Teck Cominco Limited and the Tahltan Central Council will discuss BC's newest mining powerhouse, the Galore Creek Mining Company, its plans to develop the province's first new metal mine in 20 years, and its ground breaking Partnership Agreement with First Nations at a mineral exploration and mining industry breakfast on Thursday, September 13, at 7:30 a.m. at the Terminal City Club, 837 West Hastings Street.

Don Lindsay, President & CEO, Teck Cominco Limited; Curtis Rattray, Chairperson, Tahltan Central Council; and Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse, President & CEO, NovaGold Resources Inc. will provide their perspectives on the $2 billion Galore Creek copper-gold project in northwestern British Columbia, the largest private sector project in BC's history, as part of a panel discussion sponsored by the Association for Mineral Exploration BC (AME BC).

In August 2007, the Galore Creek Mining Company was formed as a partnership between NovaGold Resources Inc. and Teck Cominco Limited to develop the Galore Creek mine, located about 150 km northwest of Stewart, hosting the largest, highest grade, undeveloped bulk minable copper-gold deposit in North America. The partnership recently finalized a Participation Agreement with the Tahltan Central Council that maximizes Aboriginal employment, benefits, and participation in the development and operation of the mine.

Don Lindsay joined Teck Cominco Limited as President in January 2005, was appointed a Director in February, 2005 and Chief Executive Officer in April, 2005.

Curtis Rattray was elected Chairperson of the Tahltan Central Council, and held the position from 1994 to 1997. He was again elected Chairperson in 2002 following completion of his university studies.

Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse was appointed President & CEO of NovaGold Resources Inc. in 1998.

The AME BC Speaker Series breakfast provides a unique opportunity to hear first-hand from partners in the Galore Creek project. The breakfast will also feature a presentation by Ross Beaty, Chairman, Pan American Silver Corp., on industry support for the new Earth Systems Science Building at UBC, and a cheque presentation from AME BC to the Prostate Centre at Vancouver General Hospital.
