America to Determine the Winner of National Disability Institute's My American Dream Video Contest

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - October 13, 2014) - National Disability Institute (NDI), the nation's first nonprofit exclusively dedicated to bolstering the financial health, capability, capacity and future of all people with disabilities, opened voting for America to select the winner of its 4th Annual My American Dream -- Voices of Americans with Disabilities Video Contest

From now through October 27, 2014, the public is encouraged to vote for one of the five finalists who made videos sharing their American dreams and steps they are taking to make their dreams a reality. America's vote will determine the grand prizewinner, who will receive $1,000, a digital tablet and sessions with a mentor to help take steps toward realizing their dream.

"National Disability Employment Awareness Month is in full swing, and in that spirit it is important we remember that all Americans, with and without disabilities, should have the same economic opportunities," said Michael Morris, Executive Director of National Disability Institute. "Now in its 4th year, our annual My American Dream Video Contest has changed minds and opened countless eyes to the fact that having a career, starting and running your own business, succeeding in college, purchasing your first home and achieving financial independence are the dreams of all people."

From east to west and north to south, videos poured in from across the country, and out of those entries, five finalists were selected by an independent panel and are now available for America's vote. They are:

  • Joe Bishop of Colorado Springs, Colo.
  • Emily Munson of Indianapolis, Ind.
  • Robert Ransom of Flat Rock, N.C.
  • Joseph Summers of Sparta, Tenn.
  • Amanda Thompson of Hays, Kan.
