American Addiction Centers Deploys Xirrus Wi-Fi Network

Company Continues Wi-Fi Expansion Across Its Nationwide Treatment Centers; Network Enables Rapid Rollout of Secure "Anytime Anywhere" Access to Electronic Medical Records (EMR) From iPads

THOUSAND OAKS, CA--(Marketwired - May 21, 2013) - Xirrus®, the leader in high-performance wireless networks, today announced that American Addiction Centers (AAC) has equipped its Desert Hope treatment center in Las Vegas with Wi-Fi Arrays from Xirrus to provide wireless coverage for patients and staff. AAC has also equipped its Brentwood, Tennessee corporate offices with Xirrus Arrays, establishing Xirrus as its standard technology for wireless coverage to be rolled out to other AAC treatment centers across the nation. Facility-wide Wi-Fi is already in place at AAC's Forterus treatment center in Dallas.

Following quick Wi-Fi deployment across the 70,000-square-foot Desert Hope facility, IT planners provided wireless Internet access on mobile devices to all patients, as well as secure wireless access for clinical staff on a separate channel of the dual-band network.

IT planners at Desert Hope also have begun conversion of a paper-based medical records process to an electronic medical records (EMR) system for access by medical staff on iPads. When launched later this month, the EMR application will provide real-time access to patient records across the network of treatment centers. The Xirrus Wi-Fi network also serves as the foundation for a wireless nurse-call system, and provides ubiquitous access and real-time updates to meeting and therapy session schedules. Xirrus Application Control enables IT planners to prioritize and reserve wireless network capacity for these "business-critical" applications and ensures lower priority traffic doesn't get in the way of application performance when it's needed the most -- at the point of patient care.

"Providing secure, high-performance and scalable Wi-Fi access for our patients and staff has helped to enable competitive advantage for AAC. The Xirrus solution meets our performance and HIPAA security requirements for medical records and patient privacy, and the scalability provides insurance that we can provide ample bandwidth for every user today and in the future," said Michael Cartwright, executive director of AAC. "As we continue our Xirrus rollout, we expect to see a significant ROI as we migrate from a wired to wireless world, especially at our retrofit facilities, in which running cable for wired access through a facility would be a losing proposition."

Cartwright also noted that the user's wireless experience remains a paramount consideration as AAC expands its Wi-Fi coverage throughout its treatment centers. "I see Wi-Fi as one of our competitive strengths. A top goal of ours -- and it's clearly in sight -- is to deliver a customer experience like that of Ritz Carlton."

"American Addiction Centers remains in the vanguard of healthcare providers, adopting wireless both for timeliness and continuous improvement in treatment, and for constant connectivity of patients with their families and friends," said Jacob Lee, vice president of technology solutions of San Diego-based Technology Integration Group, a national systems integrator for Xirrus. "We take great pride in working on this project knowing that we are improving patients' lives through the application of high-performance wireless technology."
