American Health, Leader in Medical Management Solutions, Launches Integrated Behavioral Health Product

WORTHINGTON, OH--(Marketwire - Apr 20, 2011) - American Health Holding, Inc., a multi-URAC accredited medical management service provider, today announced the launch of Integrated Behavioral Health, a parity-compliant product designed to provide a first stop for all members with mental health and substance abuse (MH/SA) conditions and guide them to the most appropriate mode of care.

American Health provides Integrated Behavioral Health in partnership with CuraLinc Healthcare, a national provider of behavioral health programs that help organizations decrease costs and improve productivity.

Integrated Behavioral Health, a unique combination of medical management and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), reduces unnecessary costs by guiding members who will benefit from short-term behavioral health counseling to the EAP at the point of entry. By addressing many behavioral health cases within the framework of an EAP short-term counseling model, Integrated Behavioral Health provides savings from would-be claims that were instead redirected to the EAP.

Members who access the Integrated Behavioral Health program speak directly to a Case Manager, who is a licensed behavioral health counselor and who provides the member with a thorough clinical assessment. Based on the assessment, the member is guided to the most appropriate mode of care -- either to the EAP or, for members with acute mental health or substance abuse (MH/SA) conditions, to providers or facilities within the health plan's network.

"We are excited to add Integrated Behavioral Health to American Health's growing line of medical management products," said Paul Lavin, President of American Health. "The program's integrated delivery promotes referrals to network providers, the EAP and Case Management, which results in savings from fewer outpatient counseling claims and higher in-network group health plan participation."

"CuraLinc is proud to partner with American Health to offer Integrated Behavioral Health," said Sean Fogarty, President of CuraLinc Healthcare. "Integrated Behavioral Health's 'clinical-first' model provides an extra layer of guidance and advocacy for members with mental health or substance abuse conditions. The program helps clients maximize employee productivity, while supporting the appropriate use of health benefits."

Integrated Behavioral Health addresses a wide range of behavioral health concerns, from addictive behaviors to stress management to family and marital counseling. The comprehensive program also offers: work-life benefits such as dependent care referrals, legal consultation and financial assistance; critical incident response services; and corporate training services.
