American Petro-Hunter #2 Lutters Well Tests Positive for Oil and Anticipates Completion as a Commercial Producer

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - October 1, 2009) - American Petro-Hunter, Inc. (OTCBB: AAPH) ("American Petro-Hunter" or the "Company") is pleased to report that the #2 Lutters well at the Poston Project in Trego County, Kansas has reached a total depth (T.D.) of 4,313 feet. The well has encountered strong oil shows during drilling and in initial Drill Stem Tests (D.S.T.) from a target pay zone which was encountered at a higher than anticipated depth. Significantly, no water was present in the D.S.T. test.

Given these results, the operator and Company management will make a casing election to set pipe following additional testing in order to complete the well. All preliminary signs indicate the #2 Lutters well should be a commercially viable oil well, subject to today's final test results. Upon completion of the well, it would be immediately tied-in to the on-site tank battery for storage prior to sales transport. The nearby #1 Lutters well has been in production since mid-June and once the #2 Lutters is online, the Company anticipates over 120 barrels per day of production from the two wells.

In related news from California, the Archer-Myers #1 well has reached a depth of 5,800 feet and with 2 more days of drilling is expected to reach the three sand formations that recent data interpretation has indicated as showing a potential for contained gas within a cumulative pay thickness of 54 feet.

These 2 wells are the first in the Company's fall drilling program which aims to drill five oil and gas wells by the end of November.
