American Petro-Hunter Launches Major Fall Drilling Program as #2 Lutters Well at Poston Project to Commence

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - September 22, 2009) - American Petro-Hunter, Inc. (OTCBB: AAPH) ("American Petro-Hunter" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that the drilling program at the #2 Lutters Well on the Poston Prospect, Trego County, Kansas is in full readiness to commence. The drilling rig arrives on site today and the Company expects the well to commence drilling operations with the spud of the well tomorrow (September 23). The #2 Lutters is planned for 4,500 feet and is offset to the #1 Lutters well that has been in production since June.

The well is targeting the producing oil horizon in the Mississippi Dolomite, and this second location shows a similar 3D Seismic high pinpointing an oil bearing zone. Poston is a multi-well program of 2 to 3 offset wells planned in order to fully exploit the 750 acre location. Drilling operations should take approximately 5 days to reach total depth (TD), after which testing of the well will take place. The Company wishes to note that as this is classed as a development well and not exploratory, the expectation is for a rapid tie-in to the existing site infrastructure and tank storage battery, thereby allowing for oil sales to occur in an expedited manner.

This is the first well in American Petro-Hunter's fall drilling program, during which the Company is committed to drilling five oil and gas wells over the next sixty days. American Petro-Hunter plans to drill, and if successful, complete and tie-in 2 gas wells in California and 3 oil wells in Kansas during this period.
