American Portfolios Appoints Industry Leaders Paul Tyler and Atindra Barua to the Advisory Council for Its Board of Directors

HOLBROOK, NY--(Marketwired - December 10, 2015) - American Portfolios Financial Services, Inc. (APFS), a privately-held, independent broker/dealer that serves financial professionals nationally, is pleased to announce that it has recently appointed two industry leaders -- Paul Tyler, senior vice president of strategy and corporate development of Fidelity & Guaranty Life (FGL); and Atindra Barua, president and CEO of TrustFort -- to the American Portfolios Holdings, Inc. (APH) Board of Directors Advisory Board.

The APH advisory board brings a diverse mix of outside expertise in the areas of broker/dealer infrastructure; correspondence clearing; investment banking; financial management; and Web-based, enterprise data management and reporting financial service solutions. Further examination of the advisory board found two areas that required representation: marketing and technology. The addition of Tyler and Barua lends needed voices to the board, rounding it out with a full body of collective and vast knowledge to be a meaningful and contributing guide for American Portfolios' board members, and senior and executive management teams.

Tyler's expertise will aid APFS as it brings broad-based marketing to the firm, more specifically in the digital marketing arena. With more than 20 years of industry experience, Tyler drives positive strategic change through digital media that promotes financial independence. In his role as a senior executive for FGL, Tyler is responsible for strategy, branding, digital media and public relations. At FGL, he introduced inbound, content-based marketing as an efficient and effective way to engage the company's base of more than 20,000 independent agents; designed and built a suite of mobile apps; and launched a social media platform in a complex regulatory environment. His ability to interpret the financial industry with respect to marketing makes him a vital part of the advisory board.

Barua's extensive financial services software development knowledge serves APFS well from a technology perspective. In 2004, Barua founded TrustFort, which provides comprehensive IT solutions to the financial industry, becoming a global company under his leadership. In 2015, American Portfolios gained a controlling interest in TrustFort. Barua's affiliation has brought about the development of a leading edge technology platform for American Portfolios' Nine Points advisory services programs, bringing the company ever closer to technology independence. With more than 20 years of experience in product design, development, business process optimization and restructuring work to maximize ROI, Barua is considered a thought leader in broker/dealer technology. His proven track record and keen technological focus make Barua an invaluable member of APH's advisory board.

The recent appointments are in keeping with APFS' five-year roadmap for strategic growth; APFS CEO, CIO and President Lon T. Dolber states, "Part of our strategy is to increase our brand awareness and broaden our focus to enhance our digital marketing and technology capabilities. Paul and Atindra are consummate strategic thinkers who are making meaningful contributions to an already powerful board."

Other members of the APH advisory board include Jay Lewis, founder of Nathan & Lewis Securities; Norman Malo, former CEO of National Financial; Arthur Goldberg, former CEO of Integrated Resources, Inc.; and Steven E. Rothstein, former EVP and CFO of AIG Advisor Group, Inc.
