American Portfolios Supports World T.E.A.M. Sports by Sponsoring and Participating in 2017 Face of America Bike Ride

HOLBROOK, NY--(Marketwired - May 05, 2017) - American Portfolios Financial Services, Inc. (APFS), a privately-held, independent broker/dealer that provides services and support to financial advisors throughout the country, continues its long-standing support of World T.E.A.M. Sports with the 2017 Face of America (FOA) bike ride, which took place April 28-30, 2017.

APFS is a firm believer in being a true corporate citizen through acts of social responsibility -- one of six tenets outlined in its strategic five-year plan for growth. "A significant part of our mission is to give back to the community -- to leave a noticeable footprint locally, nationally and even globally," said APFS CEO and WTS Vice Chairman Lon T. Dolber. "Our hope is that by encouraging APFS employees and affiliated colleagues to take part in socially responsible events, it will spark in them the desire to make a difference in the world at large. Whether by participating in events like FOA or by simply organizing a fundraiser for a local shelter, many of our colleagues who have participated in WTS events have gone on to make tangible differences in their local communities."

Since 2007, APFS has been a proud participant and sponsor for WTS, a non-profit organization that for the last 24 years has remained true to its mission to "change lives through sports." The firm has actively contributed its time and resources each year to more than 25 events that encourage and challenge disabled men, women and children to accomplish feats they never dreamed possible. APFS has raised nearly $1 million for the organization since its involvement, earning the distinction of being among the top fundraisers for WTS. Team American Portfolios raised a total of $92,875 in charitable donations for the 2017 FOA bike ride alone, and two of the firm's affiliated financial advisors were ranked among the Top 10 Overall Fundraisers: Theresa Hannon ($6,740) and James McCauley ($5,475).

2017 marks APFS' 10th FOA bike ride, which covers more than 100 miles from Washington, D.C., to the battlefields of Gettysburg, Pa., over the course of two days. This year's ride included more than 600 cyclists, 250 of which are active duty military personnel and U.S. and Canadian military veterans, many of whom were injured or became disabled during military service. Among the riders were 68 APFS staff members, affiliated financial advisors, and business partners and/or friends of the firm.

"Spending time with our Team AP riders and volunteers, while watching new relationships form and existing ones flourish, is really wonderful," said David Rey, APFS financial advisor and team captain. "Each year we become stronger within our team and on the ride itself." APFS COO Dean Bruno, a triathlete in his spare time, lends to Rey's sentiment. "FOA has made an impact on me as I've developed many friendships over the years and it is a humbling experience to help others who may need a push or two going up the various hills in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Pennsylvania, or perhaps giving them encouragement to keep on pedaling and to never give up" he said of his experience.

In 2016, 14 APFS staff members and affiliated colleagues participated in WTS' Adventure Team Challenge (ATC) and Coastal Team Challenge (CTC). This year will see the firm's continued participation in these events, beginning with ATC in Harris, N.Y., from June 8-9, 2017, which engages medically-fragile, developmentally-disabled teens and young adults from the Center for Discovery during a weekend of competitive team sporting events; and CTC on Aug. 1-2, 2017, a two-day, 20-nautical-mile, non-competitive kayak journey along the coast of Long Island, N.Y., with participating athletes from Independent Group Home Living.
