American Traffic Solutions Supports Stop on Red Week

TEMPE, AZ--(Marketwired - August 03, 2015) - ATS is proud to join the Federal Highway Administration in raising awareness about red-light running. National Stop on Red Week runs from August 2-8th and highlights the dangers of red-light running our families face every day. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), nearly 700 people were killed in 2013 from crashes involving red light violations, and an estimated 127,000 were injured. To view the damage that can be done when drivers run the red-light, please visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWV4sKDc_Ig.

"Since 2004, more than 7,700 lives have been lost due to red-light running. ATS is honored to partner with communities nationwide to provide life-saving technology designed to change driver behavior and create safer roads for motorists, pedestrians and the community at large," said David Roberts, President and COO.

ATS reminds motorists to remember these important rules when approaching intersections where there are traffic lights:

  • Yellow lights are an indicator to slow down and prepare to stop.
  • Come to a complete stop before turning on red.
  • Scan intersections and approach with caution, even if the light is green.
  • Yield to pedestrians. They have the right of way.

A recent national survey from the AAA Foundation (http://newsroom.aaa.com/2015/02/crashes-touch-one-three-drivers-continue-take-risks/) shows that a majority of U.S. drivers support photo enforcement programs to stop red-light running. Ninety-four percent of drivers say it is somewhat or completely unacceptable to drive through a red light when the motorist could have stopped safely.
