Americans and Jordanians Aid Lebanon

TEMPE, AZ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 8, 2006 -- Christian relief agency leaders from Venture International, Tempe, Arizona, and Manara Ministries, Amman, Jordan, announced today their partnership in a one million dollar emergency relief effort for war ravaged civilians in Lebanon.

Called CEDARS, the effort will be totally funded by donations from the private sector.

Manara Ministries Associate Director, Safa Hijazeen, reported on the extraordinary need. "Many Christian villages look like ghost towns at best! Commercial buildings, homes, schools, roads, and bridges are in rubble despite the promises of reconstruction by Hezbollah."

Leonard Rodgers, president of Venture International, visited Lebanon in August at the zenith of the war. He saw first hand the suffering of the 900,000+ civilians displaced from southern Lebanon and watched as many fled to safety.

The two agencies are targeting an estimated 10,000 people who remain in northern Lebanon. The effort will focus aid in four areas: Food parcels, medical supplies, Bibles and Christian literature, and books for Christian schools. This relief campaign will continue now through January 2007.

Rodgers said that 39 percent of the 3.8 million people in Lebanon are Christian. "The churches in Lebanon want and need our prayers and practical assistance," he said.

Isam Ghattas, executive director for Manara Ministries, invites other organizations, churches, and individuals to join Venture and Manara in funding CEDARS, the Lebanese relief effort.

Founded in 1986 by Leonard and Pauline Rodgers, Venture International works with poor and disabled people in the Middle East and Central Asia. This is done through emergency relief, strategic partnerships, small business creation, and people development.

Manara Ministries, founded by Isam Ghattas in 1966, operates a youth ministry, literature distribution, prison ministry, and leadership training for young Jordanians. Manara staff has a reputation for being among the first responders to disasters in the Middle East.
