AmeriSpec-ecoEnergy Grant Gets an Extension!

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 25, 2011) - You're living in the 21st century. Have you brought your home along? If not, the time to upgrade your home is now. Homeowners can take advantage of the popular, recently extended, Government of Canada's ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes* program. The program assists eligible homeowners by providing ecoENERGY grants of up to $5000 to upgrade their homes. By making energy improvements like replacing heating and cooling systems; upgrading domestic water equipment, installing toilets, windows and doors, you'll not only be making smart energy decisions that result in reduced energy costs, you'll be upgrading to an energy efficient home that acts responsibly. Getting your home up to 21st century energy efficiency is certainly achievable. But in order to qualify for the maximum amount for your current property, there are a few steps you'll need to take, including hiring a certified home inspection company to perform an ecoENERGY audit.

Register for your ecoENERGY Grant before you renovate

Whether you own a single home or multiple properties, the first step to qualifying for the ecoENERGY grant is to register. Until March 31, 2012, if you have not already received the maximum ecoENERGY grant amount you can submit another application for additional home improvements after June 6, 2011. Follow these simple steps to apply for the ecoENERGY grant and to see if you qualify for any additional rebates:

1. Registration: First, obtain a registration number when you register with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) online at or call 1 800 O-Canada (1 800-622-6232).

2. Enlist a home energy audit from a local company licensed by NRCan. A certified energy advisor will need access to the entire house to perform a pre-retrofit home energy evaluation. No home energy audit will be required if the property has been evaluated under this program since April 2007. You will receive an ecoENERGY report.

3. Retrofit with Receipts: Choose, purchase and install eligible upgrades described in the ecoENERGY report, and keep your receipts for three years. The more upgrades you implement, the more money you can receive, and the more energy you can save.

4. Post-retrofit evaluation: Complete your renovations and obtain a post-retrofit evaluation no later than March 31, 2012. You must show all your receipts to your energy advisor during the final home energy evaluation to verify that eligible upgrades were purchased and installed on or after June 6, 2011.
