Amicus comment on Barclays and ABN Amro talks

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - April 20, 2007) - Keith Brookes, Amicus National Official says: "Amicus has now had an update from senior management at the Barclays European Works Forum on the merger with ABN Amro. Amicus is confident that the merger will serve to support the Barclays ambition to create a European headquartered bank, which is able to compete in a global banking environment. We welcome this as a positive move to support Barclays' strategy to become a significant global player.

"Amicus is seeking assurances from Barclays that they will work with us to avoid any compulsory redundancies. Whilst there is some overlap between the organisations in terms of support functions, Amicus has every confidence that this process of change can be managed through our existing job security agreements."
