Amicus commenting on the Johnston Press Group’s intention to move production from Belfast

LONDON, ENGLAND--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 9, 2006) - Following the Johnston Press Group's announcement that they intend to move production of the News Letter and the Derry Journal from Belfast, Amicus are now in consultation with the company over ways and means to save as many members jobs as possible.

Amicus National Officer, Steve Sibbald, said:

"We will be talking about redeployment, mitigating the effects of the redundancy compensation payments over the full consultation period. It will be a number of weeks, possibly months before any conclusion is reached but of paramount importance to Amicus is firstly to protect our members livelihoods and offset as much as we can any effects of the loss of jobs."

Approximately 75 jobs are at risk.
