Amicus commenting on staff cuts report

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 4, 2006) -

Kevin Coyne, Amicus Head of Health said:

"This leaked document appears to confirm all of our worst fears. The report of job cuts runs counter to all of the government's claims about their commitment to the future of the National Health Service. The NHS and the nation have invested millions in training staff and now proposes to just dispose of them. If jobs are axed there will be a devastating impact on services and patient care will suffer.

"There can be no doubt that the moves to privatise the NHS is detrimental to patients, and is costing taxpayers millions of pounds. Cuts are being made to key services and jobs as trusts attempt to balance their books. This report is more evidence that as a result of the dash to the private sector, struggling PCTs are facing further debts. There can be no benefit felt by staff, patients, or taxpayers."
