Amicus members ballot for industrial action at Glasgow Herald

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 19, 2006) - Amicus, the UK's largest private sector union is conducting a ballot for industrial action after the Glasgow Herald management, which also includes the Sunday Herald, decided arbitrarily to a change in the pay date.

The pay date is to change from 20th to the 26th of the month.

Amicus National Officer, Steve Sibbald, said of the dispute:
"Management appear to have handled this issue very badly and have provoked a strength of feeling amongst Amicus members not seen in a long time.

"Our members are not prepared to accept any unilateral changes to terms and conditions of employment and it appears that the management do not want to negotiate. So we have no alternative but to ballot for industrial action."

Amicus will ballot 201 members which is due to take place between 25th October and 6th November.
