Amicus on production of the new Landrover Freelander model

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 25, 2006) -

Roger Maddison, Amicus' National Officer for the Automotive industry, said:

"This is a great day for Halewood and for the UK car making industry which needs some good news.

"The Freelander has been designed and will now be built in the UK and so is extremely important for the UK's car manufacturing capability as well as the future of Land Rover in the UK.

"The Freelander, the new Mini, Honda and Nissan show that the UK car industry can be a success and its' workers are among the best in the world.

"It also demonstrates that those companies, such as Peugeot, who have decided to move their production out of the UK are doing so to take advantage of cheap foreign labour and to make even greater profits while still seeking to exploit the lucrative UK market."
