Amicus reaction to announcement of BNG sale

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 24, 2006) -

Amicus' National Officer for the Energy industry, Dougie Rooney, said:

"The announcement today by the Secretary of State, the Rt. Hon. Alistair Darling MP, is disappointing, particularly with regard to the proposed sale of the Magnox business. Our union would have preferred to have a competition for the North and South bundles which would give value to the taxpayer.

"However we will continue to lobby for the sale to be constructed in such a way as to ensure that UK companies get a 'cut of the action'. This unfortunate situation whereby the NDA and BNFL Boards have now changed their strategy on at least four occasions during the last six months reflects very badly on the members of both Boards."
