Amicus reaction to news of the proposed closure of TMD Friction

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 8, 2007) - Amicus reaction to news of the proposed closure of TMD Friction in Clackheaton, West Yorkshire, announced today. TMD Friction is the manufacturer of brake linings and supplies companies including Toyota.

Dick Croft, Amicus' Regional Officer, said:

"We're shocked by today's announcement which has been made, despite the fact that the plant is modern and the business profit making.

"We are involved in consultations with the company and will be presenting them with alternative plans to closure. The plant is a centre for manufacturing excellence in the UK and its' employees are highly skilled so these are jobs we can ill afford to lose."

Closure of the plant would result in the loss of 274 jobs.
