Amicus reaction to Prudential results

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - July 28, 2006) - Tina Mackay, Amicus Official says: "Whilst Amicus are pleased that the Prudential have finally come clean on scale of savings, we fail to see how this level of cutbacks will not adversely impact existing customers and employees in the UK.

"Amicus have submitted proposals to the company to achieve the Pounds Sterling 40 million headcount savings through voluntary redundancies. Amicus will expect from the Prudential that as a minimum standard an agreement to no compulsory redundancies is given.

"Amicus believe this announcement is an indication that more job losses and increased offshoring will follow. Amicus fear this is a cut too far and the poor UK results are a consequence of mismanagement over the past few years.

"We are calling for a meeting with Chief Executives; Nick Prettejohn and Mark Tucker to discuss their plans for the business in the UK and the impact on Prudential employees and Amicus members. Prudential must begin to engage with their dedicated employees, if they continue to show such contempt for their workforce the consequences will be dismal."
