Amicus reaction to Standard Life job losses

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - March 22, 2007) - David Fleming, Amicus National Officer said: "Standard Life are putting profits for their new shareholders before their loyal workforce. Amicus is seeking recognition at Standard Life with the desire to prevent compulsory redundancies and the terms and conditions of all staff. Amicus has long standing relationships with many of the top names in the financial services sector and using our vast experience of this highly competitive industry we will support our members during this time of uncertainty".

Around 1000 Standard Life staff have joined Amicus in recent months. Many staff are up in arms over company plans to close the final salary pension scheme. On Monday (19th March) of this week 500 members of staff attended open meetings organised by Amicus at Usher hall in Edinburgh. Amicus has submitted a formal request to meet with the management of Standard Life to discuss a future relationship. Amicus' involvement has been driven by the staff themselves and the turnout at Monday's meeting shows the strength of feeling amongst staff.
