Amicus successful in recognition ballot with the Church of Scotland

LONDON, ENGLAND--(CCNMatthews - May 24, 2006) - A resounding 80% of staff at the Church of Scotland took part in the ballot for trade union recognition, of those 84.75% voted YES in favour.

Amicus has today announced the ballot result which will hopefully see the signing of a new recognition agreement with the Church of Scotland which will cover 240 members and will allow us to negotiate on pay, hours and holidays as well as having the right to represent members on individual disciplinaries and grievances.

Amicus Regional Officer, Gordon Casey, said:

"On behalf of the Amicus members at the Church of Scotland, I am delighted at the result of this recognition ballot.
"This is a historical agreement for the Church of Scotland and Amicus and we will now work in partnership to repay the faith shown in us by the staff who participated in the ballot.

"It also gives encouragement to the clergy and faith workers in general that Amicus working in partnership with employers can be of great benefit to churches and all who work for them."

This recognition ballot gives Amicus a good foundation to build on as it clearly expresses the wish of a large majority of Church of Scotland employees.
