Amicus supports opening of innovative IT learning centre

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 18, 2006) - Amicus' Assistant General Secretary Tony Burke will be opening a new learning centre at De-La-Rue, a commercial security printer and papermaker, in Overton on 23rd August.

Funding has been secured from the company and the Amicus South of England Graphical Paper & Media Branch in a joint venture to help employees access learning within the workplace.

Amicus and De-La-Rue have been working together to lift the barriers to learning that workers have due to their shift patterns and have equipped the new learning centre with 6 computers and the latest software will help to widen learning opportunities that are already taking place at the company.

Commenting on the initiative Tony Burke said:

"Amicus realises the importance of learning and training within the workplace. The success at De-La-Rue is proof that unions and companies can work together to allow workers to realise their potential. This can only be a benefit to their employer.

"The Learning Centre will be a great asset to the workplace and I congratulate the Amicus South of England GPM Branch and De-La-Rue on the success of their venture."

Working with Basingstoke College many Amicus members have already received IT and Skills for Life courses in the workplace and Tony will be awarding the successful students with their certificates.
