"Amigas Groove for the Cure" Charity Event to Benefit Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale

Latin Fusion Fitness Party and Health Mixer to Raise Funds to Fight Breast Cancer

MIAMI, FL--(Marketwired - Oct 22, 2013) - The first ever "Amigas Groove for the Cure" will take place Saturday, November 2 at the Miami Tower and promises to be an unforgettable fundraiser to raise money to fight breast cancer -- Latina style. Attendees will be able to shake, shimmy and salsa to support a great cause with all proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale affiliate.

"Amigas Groove for the Cure" begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Miami Tower in the Office Lobby. Maria Alejandra Requena will be the Mistress of Ceremonies for the charity event, which also includes a motivational panel, Latin Fusion fitness class, healthy snacks and much more.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Latinas, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Despite the fact that Latinas have lower breast cancer rates than white women, they are more likely than whites to be diagnosed at a later stage, when the cancer is more advanced and harder to treat.

Since regular exercise is associated with reduced breast cancer risk, participants will be inspired by healthy lifestyle tips from:

  • Cecilia Ramírez Harris, host of "Vida Sana con Cecilia" on Primer Impacto on Univision, author and life coach
  • Andrea Minski, host of "Entre Tu y Yo" on Telemundo and founder of the blog www.mujerbalance.com
  • Grace C. Lopez, President of Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale affiliate
  • Maria Alexandra Villasana, Latina breast cancer survivor

The first ever "Amigas for the Cure" is hosted by Miami Fashion Trends with all donations benefitting Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale. The event is supported by Space Coast Credit Union, Hispanic Marketers and Marketwired as the official wire sponsor.

"We decided to organize a fundraising event to benefit the local community after attending a conference with Susan G. Komen and learning about the startling statistics," said Wendy Sayago, founder of Miami Fashion Trends. "Latinas need to get past the cultural taboos and arm themselves with information for early detection."

Supporters, survivors and Latin dance enthusiasts are invited to register for "Amigas Groove for the Cure" online: http://bit.ly/Amigas4Cure.

Once registered, you can make your $15 donation directly to Susan G. Komen at the door the day of the event and receive your pink wristband.
