Amphion Unveils ICD-10 Competency Assessments at the 86th Annual AHIMA Convention & Exhibit

Comprehensive Assessments to Test Key Coding Concepts in Advance of ICD-10 Transition Will Be Featured in Booth # 1038

MADISON, WI--(Marketwired - Sep 25, 2014) - Amphion Medical Solutions, a leading provider of advanced transcription and coding solutions and services, unveiled its ICD-10 Competency Assessments today in advance of the 86th Annual AHIMA Convention & Exhibit (Booth #1038), taking place at the San Diego Convention Center Sept. 27-Oct. 2. Created by AHIMA-approved trainers, the portfolio of extensive assessments is designed to test coders' knowledge of key coding concepts in various settings in preparation for the healthcare industry's transition to the ICD-10 code set in October 2015.

"Because the typical coding assessment scenarios are written with little thought about whether or not they actually test proficiency levels in the critical concepts required for accurately coding in ICD-10, they can miss crucial skill gaps and, as a result, impact reimbursements," said Pam Wirth, RHIA, president of Amphion's Coding, Compliance and Quality Division. "Our assessments were created to serve as a blueprint for identifying those key coding concepts in both CM and PCS to ensure coders are truly proficient in ICD-10."

The ICD-10 Competency Assessments portfolio consists of eight assessments measuring proficiency in a number of settings, including Inpatient, Outpatient Diagnostic, Same Day Surgery and Emergency Room settings. The full assessment package includes a study guide, evaluation report, personal evaluation by an ICD-10 coding expert and chapter recommendations. Also included is a free trial for one chapter at Amphion U, Amphion's comprehensive online ICD-10 learning system.

"To validate proficiency, our assessment also includes simulated patient records requiring knowledge of all critical key coding concepts for correct ICD-10 code assignment," said Wirth. "It is the ideal way to determine how well a coder has retained ICD-10 training or to test competency at the point of hire."
