AMREL's New Super-Thin Fully Rugged Tablet

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 30, 2015) - The leader in rugged mobile solutions, American Reliance, Inc. (AMREL), announced the launch of the ROCKY DS11 fully rugged tablet. Leveraging 30 years of AMREL's experience of supplying warfighters as well as Public Safety officers, the lightweight ROCKY DS11 not only meets IP65 and MIL-STD 810G (military ruggedness standard), but also is just an inch thick.

"The age of big, clunky rugged tablets is over," announced Kalvin Chen, AMREL's VP of Operations, "Rugged computers, like their commercial counterparts, are getting lighter and slighter."

ROCKY DS11's small footprint has practical considerations. A compact form factor makes integration into other systems easier. Weighing only 3 pounds, the ROCKY DS11 doesn't weigh down today's frequently overburdened soldier. Despite its small size, it has plenty of room for customization.

"Unlike other rugged computer companies, AMREL specializes in customized COTS," explains Mr. Chen. "While many buy our products off-the-shelf, most of what we sell has been adapted to customers' requirements. The DS11 was built to be modified in a quick and economic manner, even for low volume orders."

The ROCKY DS11 offers a wide variety of connectors. It has options for VGA, RS232, extra USBs, display port, and even specialized connectors, such as military ones.

"We're very sensitive to customers' feedback," said Mr. Chen. "They wanted powerful processors to handle data-intensive applications, so we put an Intel® Core i7 in the DS11. Sunlight readability is a top concern of our market, so we made DS11 with a WUXGA (1920x1200) LCD with brightness of 1,000 nits. DS11 also comes with standard capacitive touchscreen (resistive optional."

Featuring a Windows 7/8.1/10 operating system, the ROCKY DS11 is perfect for applications requiring rigorous field work and heavy data input, including:

  • Military
  • Oil & Gas
  • First Responders
  • Insurance Investigation
  • Forestry
  • Construction
  • Field data collection
  • Geophysical research
