Amsterdam City Centre Hotel, Marriott's First European Property, Celebrates 40 Years

Hotel Marks Occasion by Unveiling Plans for New Guest Rooms From Dutch Firm Studio Piet Boon

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS--(Marketwired - Jun 9, 2015) - The Amsterdam Marriott Hotel is no stranger to being first. It was the first company's first hotel in Europe when it opened in 1975, and in 2013 was the first in Europe to introduce the brand's Next Generation Meeting Spaces. As it celebrated its 40th anniversary at the start of June, the Amsterdam city centre hotel unveiled plans for its new guest room design, once again putting it at the forefront of creativity and innovation.

The new guest rooms, designed by Dutch powerhouse Studio Piet Boon, are inspired by the 'brutalism' movement, which originates from the French béton brut, or 'raw concrete.' The new rooms will optimise the space whilst creating a warm, contemporary atmosphere that balances architectural elements, refined raw materials, thoughtful details and smart space solutions. In keeping with the simple design, neutral decor will play off a soft colour palette of white and grey tones.

"The collaboration with Piet Boon adds a compelling new dimension to the guest experience," Peter Schickling, the hotel's general manager, says. "The inspiring and cutting-edge design will impress and revitalise guests whilst also providing comfort and the latest technology."

All 396 guest rooms and suites at the Amsterdam hotel will be renovated, with completion set for early 2016. In the meantime, the hotel has been at the forefront of the recent innovations introduced by Marriott's signature brand, including the Greatroom, a versatile space where guests can meet and collaborate for work or relaxation. The Amsterdam hotel, near RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre, also offers Marriott's creative digital solutions, including Red Coat Direct, which enables meeting organisers to edit meeting requests with a touch of a button, and mobile requests, which allows guests to request extra services and amenities, such as towels and pillows, through Marriott's mobile app.
