An Automatic Solution Shouldn't Require Baby-Sitting

BURBANK, CA--(Marketwire - October 14, 2008) - The unheard-of demands coming down on companies these days, thanks to the economy, make their way right back and land on the doorstep of IT. Without the performance and computing power that system personnel provide, the company won't make it. In the midst of all that demand, the last thing an IT staff needs is to discover a solution touted as "automatic" -- and find it requires constant attention from already-overworked personnel. Not only does it mean important tasks get left behind, it also means overtime that neither the IT department nor the company can afford.

An all-too-familiar example is defragmentation. A considerable amount of defrag software is labeled "automatic" -- yet when you actually get it into the shop, you discover it needs to be scheduled. Suddenly you are confronted with several problems. First, you have to find time on each machine when users aren't accessing it, and today, with 24X7 access required for many servers, this may well be impossible. Second, some IT person will have to set schedules for the defragmenter to run. Automatic, indeed!

Fortunately, Diskeeper®, with its proprietary InvisiTasking® technology, actually does live up to the "automatic" label, and is the first and only defragmenter to do so. Thanks to InvisiTasking, defrag occurs completely invisibly, in the background, with no negative performance impact on users. Only otherwise-idle resources are used to ensure maximum speed and reliability, all the time.

"The biggest benefit to the InvisiTasking technology is the time saved in administration," said Jennifer Latham, Senior Infrastructure Specialist for the City of Ann Arbor, Michigan. "We do not have the burden of manually defragmenting the systems during peak business hours where we might disrupt users by slowing server performance, nor do we have to spend time managing defragmentation on nights or weekends. InvisiTasking truly makes Diskeeper 'Set It and Forget It.'"

"Our environment has a number of Microsoft SQL servers, and we have been quite satisfied with their performance since installing Diskeeper," Latham added. "It is fantastic to have a defragmentation solution that does not interfere with our databases. All of our servers are built on RAID 1 and 5; Diskeeper has worked flawlessly on them. We are equally satisfied with the results on our Microsoft file cluster relying on storage on our Dell PowerVault MD3000i iSCSI SAN arrays."

While the "automatic" label may be used loosely with other products, with Diskeeper you know you're getting fully automatic, invisible operation to keep your systems consistently performing and reliable.
