Anaheim University Brings Southern California Language Teaching Community Together

ANAHEIM, CA--(Marketwire - December 19, 2008) - On November 1st, 2008 Anaheim University, California State University Fullerton and Alliant International University co-hosted a joint English Language Teaching seminar. This Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Seminar featured three of the world's most respected experts in the field of linguistics. Anaheim University Graduate School of Education faculty Prof. David Nunan, Prof. Rod Ellis, and Prof. Kathleen Bailey spoke to faculty and students from over a dozen Southern California universities and colleges on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.

Dr. David Nunan is former President of the world's largest language teaching organization, TESOL, and the world's leading author of over 100 English language teaching textbooks and journals with worldwide textbook sales exceeding 300,000,000. Anaheim University Chair of the School of Education Dr. Rod Ellis is known throughout the world as the Father of Second Language Acquisition. Dr. Kathleen Bailey is a former TESOL President and renowned American linguist.

According to Dr. William Hartley, President of Anaheim University, "Southern California classrooms have been challenged with language issues for far too long, and English Language Teaching professionals need to come together to overcome these challenges. We are delighted that our friends at Cal State Fullerton and Alliant have joined us in bringing the Southern California TESOL community together and we hope that the global experience of Anaheim University's acclaimed TESOL faculty can help California's dedicated TESOL instructors to overcome the challenges of today's multilingual classroom. As I understand it, there were faculty and students from nearby schools such as UCLA, USC, California State University Long Beach, California State University Fullerton, California State Polytechnic University Pomona, Alliant International University, University of California Irvine, California Baptist University, Chapman University, Soka University, Long Beach City College, Orange Coast College, Irvine Valley College, and Santiago Canyon College."

This was part of Anaheim University's annual 4-day residential session that students in the AU online Master of Arts in TESOL program fly in from around the world to attend, and was the 7th session to be co-hosted with Alliant International University.

Anaheim City Councilman Harry Sidhu was in attendance and presented commemorative awards to faculty from Anaheim University, Cal State Fullerton and AIU.
