The meat products industry is getting better, but is not yet up to levels seen before the economic downturn. In the last quarter, the meat industry was bolstered by an overall increase of about 15% in the price of pork. While the results are improving, many analysts argue that large scale meat producers will be hard pressed to return to pre-crisis levels due to the US Government's shift towards supporting small scale farming and production. The government released a list of potential rules with the overall goal being to make the industry a fairer environment in which small companies can better compete with industry heavyweights.

Poultry producers such as Tyson and BRF have seen revenues rise in recent months after Russia lifted a ban on US poultry. Russia had been the largest export market for US poultry before it put a ban in place in January. Russian officials were concerned about a chlorine rinse used in US processing plants to kill pathogens that can cause food poisoning. American Poultry producers now comply with standards deemed satisfactory by Russian officials and so far they have cleared 25 poultry plants to resume exporting.
