High unemployment and weak consumer spending have hurt the trucking industry. Companies that manufacture transport trucks and trailers have been negatively affected.

There has been a recent stock price spike for many companies in the sector, and President Obama's proposed jobs plan could be a key factor. While the plan has not passed through the legislature, there seem to be signs that at least part of the plan will go through. This may have increased confidence in the industry.

If large infrastructure projects begin to come online, many companies in the sector could benefit from the demand for additional trucks, trailers and construction equipment. As the bill is yet to pass, some analysts believe though that it is still too early to tell if many of these companies in the sector are going to make a comeback.
