Ancaster Accountants Receive Prestigious FCPA, FCA Designations

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 18, 2013) - The Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario has announced the election of 59 Ontario CPAs as Fellows, earning the designation FCPA, FCA. That prestigious group includes Ancaster residents Mark Davies and Jim Forbes.

The highest designation the Institute confers, Fellowship is awarded for outstanding career achievements as well as outstanding service to the community and the profession. Ontario's Chartered Professional Accountants work in public practice, industry, academe, government and the not-for-profit sector. Less than 2.8 per cent of Ontario's over 36,500 Chartered Professional Accountants have been elected to Fellowship, making this an exceptional honour.

Mark earned his CA designation in 1986 and is a Partner with KPMG LLP in Toronto, where he is currently the Canadian representative on the firm's Global Audit Re-engineering Project. Prior to that, he worked in KPMG's National Office as the National Partner-in-Charge, Audit Standards.

He is the Chair of the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board which sets the standards for financial statement auditing and other services provided by public accountants in Canada. He has also participated in numerous CPA Canada working groups and has lectured on auditing topics at McMaster University and the University of Waterloo. Mark is an avid supporter of minor hockey and serves on the Board of Directors of the Ancaster Minor Hockey League.

Jim is Partner - Valuations, Modeling & Disputes and Global Metals Leader with PwC LLP in Hamilton, leading a Global Metals team with over 1,000 professionals around the world. He's a member of the PwC Global Industrial Products Leadership team and is also a Partner in the Deals practice, and leads the Ontario Insurance Claims practice.

Jim is also a member of the Board of Directors for the International Association of Arson Investigators' Ontario Chapter as well as being a member of the Hamilton Medical-Legal Society and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology.

"Being elected an FCPA, FCA by their peers is an indication of the esteem these Chartered Professional Accountants enjoy in their profession and communities," said Rod Barr, FCPA, FCA, President and CEO of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario. "It is also testimony to how much each has contributed to both the accounting profession and their respective communities."

FCPA, FCA elections are held every two years, and any CPA Ontario Member may submit a nomination, which culminates in a secret ballot vote by the Council. Rigorous criteria make the Fellowship designation a special honour. To receive this senior designation, a Chartered Professional Accountant is required to have brought distinction to the profession through significant business and social accomplishments.

The new FCPA, FCAs will be honoured at a presentation ceremony and dinner to be held on September 19, 2013 in Toronto.
